Our Deepest Fear is not that we are Inadequate …

This quote always makes me sit up straighter and listen deeper. It’s something that comes back to me throughout the day … as a reminder. I am powerful. I am brilliant. I am. I’ve shared these types of messages with my children but I never heard them told to me as a child. These words would make lovely morning prayers. And evening prayers.

Shall we bow our heads and recite them together?

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. {Marianne Williamson}

  1. Absolutely, Marge!
    One of my very favorites. I have it written on the first page of all my journals. My other fav is by Goethe, “Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation) there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitively commits oneself, providence moves too.”
    Thanks, Marge!

  2. YES! I love this one as well– “Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation) there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitively commits oneself, providence moves too.” It is so powerful, rich and clear that when one gets to that place – there is NO turning back! Thanks so much for this!!
