Candle Lighter Award Reaches Critical Mass

Candle lighter award imageA heartfelt thanks is sent to Jackie at A Heart Whispers for nominating me for the Candle Lighter’s Award. It was originally created by Kate Kresse as a tribute to writers who offer hope and light in the course of their writing. This award is received with warmth and appreciation and I will gladly pass it on!

I am meeting so many amazing people who are blazing new territory and writing about their experiences. Our stories are coming alive as we put a little bit more of ourselves out there. It’s scary and yet with each bold action, post or poem by one, we all gain momentum.

Long ago, I read about The Hundredth Monkey. It is a phenomenon about monkeys who learned to wash their potatoes before eating them. It happened slowly but once the number reached 100 the added energy burst through some magical wall and the entire population followed suit. Most important of all was across the seas on other islands and mainlands this was also happening. The underlying belief is when a certain critical number achieves awareness, this new awareness may be communicated from mind to mind.

The critical mass is working in our favor too. Slowly we are writing from the heart. We are showcasing our talents. We are expressing our desires. We are surrendering to sadness. We are becoming more alive.

I believe we are united in ways I can’t even conceive. Does this make any sense to you?

Working at Discomfort

I am loving the comments and phone calls and emails ( I am receiving about the No Comfort Zone-2012 Challenge. They are full of excitement and activity.

Getting out of my comfort zone!

Personally, I am working on the overt process first. I came out of the blogging closet and told my world about the hugely successful me!

Yesterday (drum roll, please…) I wore a dress to work!  Why was that such an issue in my world?  It’s always amazing to me when the world doesn’t end when I break through another self-imposed barrier.

The inner work is on hold right now but I am following Jackie and Joss and learning from them. In fact, I read their blogs and thought that my challenges were so trivial but I also realise I have to do some outer work and be gentle with myself before I can go inside.

If you’re doing this challenge, please leave a comment so we can follow along with your activities too. You don’t need to have a blog – just post here on this blog or send an email to and I’ll post it for you.

More to come!

Discomfort Zone (NoCZ-2012)

We must be willing to let goI am in awe as I read posts by others  in the No Comfort Zone-2012 Challenge.  Their inner voices are getting stronger and speaking out in ways that were never allowed before. The control they had is fading away and something else is evolving. Best of all, they putting it all into words. And what powerful words they are!

The beauty of blogging is unfolding as others step up, step out and embrace this new world. I am part of it and am growing as well. As a student I am loving it and learning from it. How lovely this is!

Coming Out of the Blogging Closet

It’s easy to hide behind words and then walk away. Over the past year I’ve blogged about a wide range of things. I wrote about my grandson, writers block, getting my car searched in Salt Lake City, my favorite foods, internet tips and tricks, hikes and so much more. I have a lovely record of 2011 because of my daily posts!

What I didn’t do, was tell those closest to me about my blogging life. Most people are aware of the upbeat and sociable me but few realized I am also a world famous blogging personality who is highly sought for my genius and insight.

So my first action in the No Comfort Zone-2012 Challenge (NoCZ-2012) is to invite them to my blog, let them read my posts, view my photos and allow them to meet the online me.

Will they come and visit, read and comment? I hope so. Will they bookmark my blog or Follow me and stay tuned? I hope so. Will they take the NoCZ-2012 Challenge? Whooo Hoooo! That would be cool if they did!

I included this in my email to them…

“My first assignment is to write this and ask you to visit my blog and share it with a 3-4 others. The fact is, I am a writer and I love to write, interact, create and lead. Mostly I do it quietly and in secret, however, I’m inviting you to take a look around, click the Like or Follow button and leave a comment to say Hello!…”

And now you have it. I’ve come out of the closet as a blogger and my world isn’t going to end because of it. Whew!

On to the next challenge …

Anticipating the No Comfort Zone-2012 Challenge

Anticipation of an event is often the best part of it. Planning for a vacation, shopping for a gift, interviewing for a job, and other activities all help build up the excitement. There are people who set aside the excitement and anticipation prior to an event because they’re too busy. But what happens is the trip or event arrives and there was no allowing for those ‘giggle moments’ and then it’s over. Sad but true.No Comfort Zone 2012 Weekly Challenge

In a blog post called Get Off Your Butt: 16 Ways to Get Motivated When You’re in a Slump, I found these words that tie into the planning stages of the NCZ-2012 Challenge:

Build anticipation. This will sound hard, and many people will skip this tip. But it really works. It helped me quit smoking after many failed attempts. If you find inspiration and want to do a goal, don’t start right away. Many of us will get excited and want to start today. That’s a mistake. Set a date in the future — a week or two, or even a month — and make that your Start Date. Mark it on the calendar. Get excited about that date. Make it the most important date in your life. In the meantime, start writing out a plan. Because by delaying your start, you are building anticipation, and increasing your focus and energy for your goal.

The fun part about this challenge is each week we will be planning something new and different for the next week. We can post it ahead of time so  we have the public support to follow through or we can go off and do it (or several things) and then post about them.

Tic Toc … See you soon!

No Comfort Zone-2012 Challenge Begins Soon!

First of all, it will be a challenge to write 2012, won’t it?

Step out of your comfort zoneI’m excited to receive some “I accept” comments and “I’ll cheer you on” comments. My mind is bopping and dancing with a variety of ideas of things out of my comfort zone. There are 3 right now that are tugging at me and I either have to write them down so I remember them tomorrow (ha ha) or just act on them and use them for my first round of blog posts. I’ll let you know what I decide.

FEEL free to spread the word and invite your friends, family and other bloggers to join in the fun!
