Time To Let It Go

It’s over.

November is over and today is the first day of a new month, the last month of the year.

Infuse your life with action. Don't wait for it to happen. Make it happen. Make your own future. Make your own hope. Make your own love. And whatever your beliefs, honor your creator, not by passively waiting for grace to come down from upon high, but by doing what you can to make grace happen... yourself, right now, right down here on Earth. -Bradley WhitfordFor some reason, November was a tough month for me. I didn’t like the cold snap which took away the colors. And then the time change took away the light. It bothered me and I took it personally.

I did, however, keep busy with a multitude of activities and am proud to say I did most everything on my November list.

The big one on my list was painting my bathroom. I still need to paint the baseboard and door. I’ll put that off as long as I can.

Reading books was easy and I had some good ones that I really enjoyed. I adored reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. Something more recent called The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith  (aka JK Rowling). I loved it and look forward to additional books by her.

I met way more than 5 people and I am in the process of joining a group. I hiked on a new trail and was active 5 days out of 7. No colds or flu just a few broken nails.

Thanksgiving Day began with a hike and then was spent with new friends.  I greeted the sun and saw the most colorful skies. And I saw some lovely sunsets too.

I connected with siblings (finally) on Oovoo and there were 3 of us chatting at the same time just last week (Oovoo is like Skype but instead of talking to just one person, you can talk to 2-6 others.)

And now it’s a new month – the last month of 2014. There’s something so sad about saying goodbye to this year. I wish I could understand the melancholy way I’m feeling. I guess I’m not ready for a new year on my doorstep or on my calendar. Funny how the Universe doesn’t care about what I want, huh?!

So, it’s time to let it go and embrace something new. Something new and wonderful? Something new and exciting? Something …

November mixup

horsetooth res3For me, November is about mixing things up. It’s about the road less traveled, discovering new trails, meeting new people, joining, moving, painting, and connecting. I am doing all of the above.

One of the items on my November list was to hike a new trail. I did that this week and it was stunning. The air was crisp, cool and clean. The sky was the bluest of blues. The clouds added dimension and character to the photos. Lunch was consumed on a rock. It was delightful.

On my list for next week is to paint the bathroom. This one is more work and one I’m not thrilled to do. And there are several steps involved so I just need to take them one at a time. I know you’re on the edge of your seat so I will keep you informed as I move along.

I am busy reading 4 books which is the kind of goal I aim for (not painting the bathroom). And I am in the process of raking my leaves and cleaning my garden. It’s work but it feels good when it’s done.

Words Matter

Step 1: Say the words…

What is it you secretly desire? What have you never told anyone before? What is your heartfelt dream that you keep locked away?

Your words matter so speak them. Words become matter.

Announce what you want.

Say it in the shower. Say it in the car. Say it on your walk.

Be bold. Get descriptive. Be outrageous. Add color. Add humor.

IMG_3570I did this on my walk Sunday evening. I came up with my list of things I want. I reached for descriptive words. I added laughter. I got creative. I wished for things I have no right wishing for…

I added details, music, conversation and color.

I included some travel destinations in my requests.

I focused and became clear and asked a bit more.

hollyhock3While I was walking, wishing and wondering (this is all part of Step 1), I was also plucking seeds. The cosmos, daisies, dahlias and hollyhocks are bursting right now so I filled my hand, shoved them in my pocket and kept moving.

By the time I reached home I had a pocketful of seeds but the one important thing in my pocket was missing – my glasses. Not to worry – as long as I acted quickly my short-term memory was sure to remember my walking route. On my bike (like a super hero) I leapt and retraced my walk. The sun was setting at 5:05pm (drats the time change!) and I knew they would be hard to locate.  Alas, no glasses. My plan was to find my backup glasses and in the morning take that walk again.

Locating my backup glasses was a chore and in the process I cleaned out 4 drawers and lugged in the paper shredder from the garage and shredded tons of items I had collected and needed to discard. Need I say, NONE of this action was in my recently created To Do list. And yet, the outcome was a tidy workspace.

So, as I write this post wearing old and scratched-up glasses I continue to create an action plan. It’s obvious to me now that on that list is to make an appointment for new glasses.

Step 2: Take Action

More to come. For now — It’s time to move.

Infuse Your Life with Action

In October, I wrote that in November I planned to write about motivation, health, fitness, fun and things that tickle my fancy.

When I saw this amazing quote to Infuse My Life With Action I knew I was on the right path.

Now to come up with some topics for November. I want to:

  • stay healthy
  • meet 5 new people
  • read 4 books
  • paint my bathroom
  • do something different for Thanksgiving
  • hike a new trail
  • join a group
  • walk more and eat less (except on Thanksgiving when I just want to devour all my comfort foods)
  • connect more on Skype and Oovoo with my family like we did last year.
  • greet the sun and admire a new day.

So, you know what I want to do – what’s on your list? Are you willing to jot down a few things you want to accomplish?  If you want to share I’d love to know what you have planned.
