When the Student is Ready…

When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.

Do you believe that?
Has that happened to you?

Perhaps we have to experience life or get centered or start listening before the teacher will arrive.

The teacher, as we all know can come in the form of a quote, blog, song, book, friend, article … Know what I mean?

12 Steps to Slow Down

There must be a program for those of us that overload our brains with a barrage of activities. Today continues the steps to help me deal with this state of being.

5. I admit I spend too much time in front of a keyboard and not enough time allowing quiet thoughts into my head.
6. I accept my tendency to agree to one more task, open one more journal, read one more document, read one more website, write one more comment.
7. I acknowledge my shortcomings and welcome the opportunity to step away and breathe … long and deep.
8. I know that my struggles are minor compared to what others are dealing with, and yet, they are real to me and need to be addressed.
9. I honor the me, filled with flaws and imperfections and know that I will continue to grow, learn, make mistakes and multitask.
10. I recognize the need to find quiet time and go within.
11. I understand the value of friendship and remember to turn to those who are willing to help me slow down and push away.
12. I know there is a power higher than me who is just waiting for me to push the ‘OFF’ button. When that happens, I am claiming my life again.

Slow Down, You’re Moving Too Fast

… and feeling groovy!

My name is Marge.

I am a multitasker. When I go to conferences, I hope to learn just one thing.
But when I work, I do many things at once.
I have many applications open and tasks that I am juggling.
I am formatting photos, editing words and checking messages.
I am downloading videos, saving documents and opening tool boxes.
I am answering questions, making calls and editing clips.

I think there is a 12 step program for people like me.

1. I admit that my life has become unmanageable.
2. I believe there is a power higher than mine that can help restore my sanity. In my case, this power is nature, sunshine and movement.
3. I turn my life over to nature and the Universe, knowing I will be welcomed.
4. I understand that my work is temporary. It comes and goes according to funding. To needs. To the whims of those that come and go. My work is not my life and my life is not my work (so profound, Marge.)
5. More steps to follow

Take me as I am, or watch me as I walk away.

My girlfriend sent me this thoughtful quote:

I might not be someone’s first choice, but I am a great choice. I don’t pretend to be someone I’m not, because I’m good at being me. I might not be proud of some of the things I’ve done in the past, but I am proud of who I am today. I may not be perfect, but I don’t need to be. Take me as I am, or watch me as I walk away.

I don’t know who the author is but I love this quote. It helps me feel more in balance and allowing of me and my choices. It’s a great reminder that I don’t have to be the best, brightest, prettiest, smartest, etc. I just have to love the me that is sitting in this chair with my fingers on the keyboard. I have to honor the me that makes mistakes.

I am not perfect nor will I ever be. If I were perfect, there would be no need to improve and grow. To me the state of imperfection is the human state. Saying the wrong thing, testing the waters, wondering, wanting, hoping, dreaming, learning … so human and so real.

Sometimes it’s all about the food

When I think of home–the place I grew up – I think of the food that I loved and can only purchase there. I miss the local bakeries that sell a wide variety of fresh bread, rolls, loaves, and fresh dough.

I miss the bakeries that make half moon cookies and headlights. Simple wants and items that I always ‘pig out’ on when I return to Upstate NY.

Is it like that for you too?

Our Deepest Fear is not that we are Inadequate …

This quote always makes me sit up straighter and listen deeper. It’s something that comes back to me throughout the day … as a reminder. I am powerful. I am brilliant. I am. I’ve shared these types of messages with my children but I never heard them told to me as a child. These words would make lovely morning prayers. And evening prayers.

Shall we bow our heads and recite them together?

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. {Marianne Williamson}
